TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Florida Bar will welcome new leadership when West Palm Beach attorney Gary S. Lesser is sworn in as the Bar’s 74th president and Sarasota attorney Scott Westheimer becomes president-elect during the 2022 Annual Florida Bar Convention on June 22-25.

Lesser is the managing partner of Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith PLLC, in West Palm Beach. He practices insurance, medical malpractice, personal injury, and product liability law.

Lesser has been actively involved with several Bar committees, including the Special Committee on Professionalism, Review Committee on Professional Ethics, Legislation Committee, and ten years on the Board of Governors. He is a member of the Health Law Section, where he also has served as board liaison, and the Trial Lawyers and Real Property, Probate and Trust Law sections. He has been a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association since 1992 and has chaired its Professionalism and Medical Legal committees.

Lesser earned his law degree in 1992 from the University of Miami after receiving his undergraduate degree in International Affairs from The George Washington University in 1989.

Doing extra has always been part of Lesser’s life. While getting his undergraduate degree from George Washington University, he was President Pro Tempore of the Student Senate and Editor in Chief of  The GW journal,  a monthly university political commentary publication. And while at law school at the University of Miami, he was Editor in Chief of the school’s newspaper who changed the paper’s schedule from once a semester to a once per month. One of his classmates and opinions editor for the paper was former Senate President Bill Galvano and they worked closely together to grow the newspaper.

Lesser has been very involved in his local community, with leadership positions in a variety of civic organizations including the Economic Council, the Jewish Federation, and the Homeless Coalition.

Scott Westheimer, the new president-elect, has been a managing partner since 2002 at Syprett Meshad, P.A., which he joined in 1996. Westheimer primarily represents plaintiffs in personal injury and commercial litigation. His priority is focused on finding resources and tools that can help empower Florida Bar members with the business of law, the practice of law, and their health and wellness, and that will better protect the public.
