The 13th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission announces a vacancy on the circuit court of the 13th Judicial Circuit in and for Hillsborough County, created by the appointment of the Hon. Laurel M. Lee to the office of Florida secretary of state. The deadline for applications is noon, Friday, Feb. 22.


The commission is accepting applications for the vacancy. Applicants must be residents of Hillsborough County, registered voters and members of The Florida Bar for the past five years.


Applications can be downloaded from The Florida Bar’s website at by going to “Directories” at the bottom of the home page and clicking on “Judicial Nominating Commission.” Applicants will be asked to provide their names, addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and email addresses to facilitate communications with the commission.


Applicants must submit a fully completed original and one copy of the application, together with a photograph attached to the original and to the copy. In addition to the original and one copy, applicants are requested to provide one electronic unredacted (PDF) copy of the application and one electronic redacted (PDF) copy of the application. Applicants are also requested to provide a thumb/flash drive with the application, unredacted and redacted, with a photo on both. Any material redacted by the applicant must be limited to exempt or confidential information that is exempt from public inspection pursuant to Chapter 119 and Florida’s public records law.


If an applicant submitted an application, photo and thumb/flash drive for the vacancy on the county court bench created by the elevation of Judge Lawrence Leffler to the circuit court bench and wishes to apply for the current circuit court vacancy, then the applicant should complete only the first page and a signed last page of the application, replace these two pages on the previously submitted application, together with a photo and thumb/flash drive, and submit them for consideration.


Send all packages to Gilbert M. Singer, chair, Marcadis Singer, P.A., 5104 S. Westshore Blvd., Tampa, FL 33611, no later than noon on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019. Incomplete applications will not be considered.


Applicants and the public will be advised in subsequent news releases of dates of commission meetings relating to filling this vacancy. The commission will submit the names of nominees for this vacant judgeship to Gov. Ron Desantis on or before Friday, March 22, 2019.
