SEEKING APPLICANTS FOR FLORIDA BOARD OF BAR EXAMINERS PUBLIC MEMBER SEAT
TALLAHASSEE, February 1, 2023 – Members of the public are invited to volunteer on or before March 20, 2023 for one vacancy on the Florida Board of Bar Examiners. A joint screening committee of Florida Bar Board of Governors members and Board of Bar Examiners members will recommend three nominees for the vacancy to the Supreme Court of Florida. The Supreme Court of Florida will appoint one public member to serve on the Florida Board of Bar Examiners for a three-year term commencing November 1, 2023 and expiring on October 31, 2026. The Board ensures that applicants seeking admission to The Florida Bar have met the requirements of the Rules with regard to character and fitness, education and technical competence prior to recommending to the Supreme Court of Florida an applicant’s admission to The Florida Bar.
A public member volunteer must have a bachelor’s degree and be deemed qualified by the Court to assess whether applicants for admission to The Florida Bar meet the essential eligibility requirements for admission under the Rules of the Supreme Court Relating to Admissions to the Bar. Past public member volunteers have possessed experience in education, medicine, psychology, science, accounting, statistical analysis, retired military, and various other professions. Lawyers are not eligible.
Board members of the Bar Examiners must be able to attend approximately ten meetings a year in various Florida locations. Board members should be willing and able to devote the equivalent of 3-4 days’ work a month, or up to 350 or more hours per year on Board business, depending on committee assignments. Actual travel expenses connected with the meetings and examinations are reimbursed.
The vacancy will occur on November 1, 2023 with the expiration of the term of Sanjena V. Clay of West Palm Beach.

A joint committee of The Florida Bar Board of Governors and the Florida Board of Bar Examiners will review all applications and may request virtual or personal interviews.
