FLORIDA BILL WOULD REPEAL GUN-BUYING AGE LAW ENACTED AFTER PARKLAND SHOOTING

News Service of Florida | Article | December 10, 2024

On Tuesday [December 10] state senator Randy Fine proposed repealing a law that prevents people under 21 from buying rifles and long guns. Fine filed SB 94 for consideration during the 2025 legislative session, which begins March 4. The bill is similar to a measure that passed the House in 2024 but failed in the Senate. The 2018 law raised the minimum age for purchasing rifles from 18 to 21 after the Parkland shooting. The NRA filed a lawsuit claiming the law violates Second Amendment rights. U.S. District Judge Mark Walker and a three-judge panel of the 11th Circuit upheld the law, but the NRA has asked the full appeals court to review the case.

FLORIDA COURT RULES IN FAVOR OF PRODUCTION CO. IN DISPUTE OVER VIRAL DOCUMENTARY ‘DIED SUDDENLY’

    Daily Business Review | Article | December 10, 2024

On Monday [December 9], a Florida production company, TLM Global, won a legal victory in a federal court dispute over the documentary “Died Suddenly.” U.S. District Judge Ryon M. McCabe issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting Stew Peters, a Minnesota-based media figure, from using the film’s title. The case, Fokiss v. TLM Global, centers on Peters’ claim of ownership of the viral 2022 documentary about COVID-19 and vaccination deaths. TLM Global, which employed the film’s creators, argues Peters’ inflammatory rhetoric harms its reputation. The judge sided with TLM Global, citing irreparable harm from Peters’ controversial social media posts. Peters, represented by Stew Peters Network attorneys, was given 14 days to object. The dispute stems from copyright and trademark ownership, as no written agreements existed between Peters and TLM Global. The case continues in court, with TLM Global seeking to protect its intellectual property.
