Florida Free Legal Answers

Users sign up for an account, then post their legal question privately on the online platform. Attorneys sign up for the categories in which they want to provide help and receive email alerts when a question has been posted on the platform. Volunteer attorneys anonymously answer the question through the website. The person who posted the question receives an email alert when the question is answered and may ask follow-up questions through the online platform.

Florida Pro Bono Matters

Lawyers can search available pro bono cases posted by civil legal aid and pro bono programs statewide and by some national programs such as the ABA Military Pro Bono Project. Keyword search enables users to narrow results to a geographic or legal practice area, case type, or a specific legal aid program. When lawyers find cases they are interested in, they can notify the posting organization through a simple online form.

Florida Courts Help App

Available on Apple and Android devices, the app seeks to help Floridians who represent themselves in family law cases by offering, in one place, information for people seeking a divorce, adoption, orders of protection, name change, and other family law issues. Among the resources available are links and contact information for help centers all around the state, along with 186 Supreme Court-approved family law forms that can be filled out on the device.

#Just Adulting App

To help students become more knowledgeable about the laws affecting those 18 and older, the Law Related Education Committee of The Florida Bar devised the #Just Adulting mobile app to educate Florida’s high-school seniors about their legal rights, responsibilities, and obligations. The app covers a variety of legal topics, such as signing contracts, how to obtain credit, the court system, alcohol laws, employment, and texting while driving.

Designed for the public, the site offers legal information and self-help forms, in PDF and guided interview format, for Floridians trying to understand and solve their legal problems without an attorney, as well as access to legal organizations, clinics, self-help centers, and both Florida Bar and local bar association referral services. Recent upgrades include plain language practice area navigation, more robust search, and a “Read Clearly” plain language legal glossary. Users can find information on upcoming clinics.

Florida Pro Bono

Lawyers can find access to news, events and training materials to assist in the representation of low-income Floridians. The site is part of The Florida Bar Foundation’s Pro Bono Partnership’s Program, which helps pro bono providers be more effective and efficient through innovation and technology and develops pro bono partnerships with bar associations, law firms, courts, law schools, and legal aid organizations.

This hotline provides free legal advice and referrals regarding injuctions for protection and other family law matters for victims of domestic, dating, sexual violence, and stalking. Non-English speaking callers have access to foreign-language interpreters.

Florida Disaster Legal Services Hotline

Disaster survivors who call the hotline can opt to hear a recorded message in English or Spanish with instructions for leaving a voicemail requesting legal assistance. They are asked to provide their name, telephone number, county of residence, and a description of their legal problems. A volunteer attorney will call the survivor back after receiving an email from The Florida Bar with the intake information.

Florida Senior Legal Helpline

Eligible callers are scheduled for a free telephone consultation with a legal aid attorney or paralegal. Most callers will receive answers to their legal questions during the initial telephone appointment. Clients may also qualify for referrals to civil legal aid providers in the clients’ local communities. These providers work in partnership with the Senior Legal Helpline and the Department of Elder Affairs to ensure that low-income and other vulnerable elderly Floridians have equal access to legal remedies.
