The Florida Supreme Court has accepted Bar-proposed amendments to lawyer referral service rules that widen their application to any “qualifying provider” that links consumers and lawyers. But the court also ordered the Bar to submit a rule within 90 days that prohibits a lawyer from accepting clients from any entity that in addition to legal services also refers callers to any nonlegal professional work stemming from the same incident.

Legislature sets court budget
Supreme Court justices got a raise they weren’t looking for and funding was restored by $2 million for trial court personnel salaries, but almost $26 million sought for trial court technology was left unfulfilled and money for a new Second District Court of Appeal courthouse was not approved.

CRC panel backs off restoration of rights issue
It’s all but certain the Constitution Revision Commission will not send voters an amendment on restoring felons’ civil rights that would compete with a citizens initiative restoring their voting rights.
