There is still time to apply to sit on Bar committees

Preference forms are available at www.floridabar.org

The annual committee preference forms for Bar members seeking appointments for the term of President-elect Michelle Suskauer are available at floridabar.org.

Michelle Suskauer As president-elect, Suskauer will make about 500 appointments to over 70 committees and she wants to make sure she has a diverse group of lawyers from which to choose. Every Florida Bar Committee and its description with current membership can be found on the Bar’s website.

“It is a privilege to practice law in this state, and with that privilege comes a responsibility,” Suskauer said. “I need your energy and your enthusiasm. We must work together to address the many challenges facing our profession.”

In making committee appointments in spring 2018, Suskauer said several factors will be considered, including:

• Prior service to the Bar and voluntary bar organizations;

• The need to infuse new members into a particular committee;

• Diversity, including, but not limited to, gender, ethnicity, geography, practice area; and

• Previous committee participation and contributions.

If you are currently serving on a committee, it is also important to check The Florida Bar’s website to determine if your term expires in 2018; if so, you need to submit a committee preference form to be considered for reappointment. If you are not currently serving on a committee and wish to be considered, submit an online form by January 16.

“Serving on a Florida Bar committee can be an incredibly rewarding experience,” Suskauer said. “Take advantage of this opportunity to enhance our profession. I look forward to working with you.”
