Alex Saiz of the 11th Circuit Public Defender’s Office was awarded the 2017 FACDL-Miami Chapter Gregg Wenzel Young Lawyer Award.

Ramon de la Cabada of Miami was a panel member in “De-biasing Jurors, Judges, Prosecutors, and Ourselves: Acknowledging & Shaping the Role of Race” at a National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers conference on jury selection in New Orleans.

John H. (Jack) Hickey of Hickey Law Firm, P.A., in Miami presented his paper, “The Corporate Representative/Rule 30(B)(6) Deposition; Issues and Answers”at the 2017 Trial Lawyers Summit in Miami. He also moderated a panel on “Pathways to Success: Highlights for Rising Attorneys” at the 2017 Dade County Bar Association’s Grand Bench & Bar Conference.

Merrick “Rick” Gross of Carlton Fields in Tampa served as a panelist at the High Yield and Distressed Realty Assets Summit at the New York Athletic Club in New York City. His presentation was titled “Bracing for Impact,” providing attendees with an update on trustee, investor, mezzanine lending, and borrower cases, and offered a discussion on strategies for addressing CMBS maturities in 2017 and 2018.

Marty Shuham of Hollywood has been elected chair of the Broward Public Library Foundation Board.

George K. Wysong of the City of Miami City Attorney’s Office was a panelist at a luncheon sponsored by the Miami-Dade County League of Cities on “The Right to Protest v. the Authority of Local Government to Regulate Protest.”

Robert D. Eckard of Robert Eckard & Associates in Palm Harbor presented a national teleconference on “Private Placement Agreements” for the National Business Institute.

Katherine “Katie” Cole of Hill Ward Henderson in Tampa has been appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to the board of trustees for St. Petersburg College.

William A. Juliachs of the City of Miami City Attorney’s Office was a panelist at the Workers’ Compensation Bench and Bar Conference 2016 and spoke on “Attorney’s Fees Post Castellanos.”

Christopher V. Carlyle of The Carlyle Appellate Law Firm in The Villages spoke at the Environmental Law Institute’s Annual Law and Policy Review in Washington, D.C., on the topic of climate exactions.

Kim Kolback of Law Offices of Kimberly Kolback in Miami moderated “2017 Orlando Legal and Hockey Night,” featuring guest speakers from the Orlando Solar Bears and counsel for the Toronto Maple Leafs, followed by the Orlando Solar Bears v. Norfolk Admirals hockey game.

Mark Wolfson of Foley & Lardner received the 13th Judicial Circuit’s “Outstanding Pro Bono Service by a Lawyer Award” from Bay Area Legal Services, Inc.

Elaine Bucher of Gunster in West Palm Beach has been elected to the board of regents of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

John Osgathorpe of Taylor, Day, Grimm & Boyd in Orlando was named as one of the six new members to the ALFA International Board of Directors.

Sharon Quinn Dixon of Stearns Weaver Miller in Miami presented at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s seminar “The Changing HR Landscape: A Post-Inauguration Overview.”

Beverly Grady of Roetzel in Ft. Myers has been elected president of the newly created Lee County Bar Association Foundation, Inc.

Dennis LeVine of Kelley Kronenberg in Tampa has been appointed to the Committee on Chapter 7 Issues for the Commission on Consumer Bankruptcy, created by the American Bankruptcy Institute.

Wendy A. Mara of Mara Law, P.A., in Ormond Beach spoke on “Temporary and Permanent Guardianship for Grandparents” at Buddy Taylor Middle School in Palm Coast.

Alison Smith of Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman in Ft. Lauderdale was re-elected to the Broward County Bar board.

Jason B. Blank of Haber Blank in Ft. Lauderdale has become vice president of the Broward Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Shannon Puopolo ofHenderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt in Ft. Myers has become a member of the Lee County Bar Foundation, which provides education, scholarships, aid, and support to indigent and underprivileged youth.

Jacob T. Cremer of Stearns Weaver Miller in Miami presented “Understanding Riparian and Water Rights” at HalfMoon Education’s Boundaries and Easements seminar.

Chris Tanner of Tampa published Software Inventions and the Patent System: A User’s Guide, available on Amazon, among other places. He was also appointed to be the entrepreneur in residence at U-Tampa. The position involves teaching and mentoring students on entrepreneurship, intellectual property, commercialization of products, and starting a company.

Gisela M. Munoz of Stearns Weaver Miller in Miami spoke on “Title Insurance and You: Let the Lawyer Beware” at the American College of Real Estate Lawyers Mid-Year Meeting.

Chad Van Horn of Van Horn Law Group in Ft. Lauderdale was named Florida Big Brother of the Year by Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Broward County.

Martin A. Schwartz of Bilzin Sumberg in Miami spoke at the American College of Real Estate Lawyers Mid-Year Meeting in Austin, Texas. His presentation was titled, “Rehabbing the Aging Condominium Concept and Dealing with Old Condominiums.”

Fermin Lopez of Colling, Gilbert, Wright & Carter in Orlando has been elected to the board of directors of the Colombo American Medical Association’s Foundation.

Adam Lustig and Alexandra Lehson of Bilzin Sumberg in Miami were honored by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation for their leadership in the community.

James W. Shindell of Bilzin Sumberg in Miami moderated a panel at the Miami Finance Forum’s CEO Power Breakfast. The event explored capital markets and hotels, industrial, multifamily, office, and retail properties, and “What’s Next for South Florida’s Commercial Real Estate Market.”

Barry A. Nelson of Nelson & Nelson in North Miami Beach presented “Integrating Estate Planning and Asset Protection Planning” at the Florida Tax Institute in Tampa.

John Gihon of Shorstein, Lasnetski and Gihon in Orlando was the discussion leader on a panel titled “Immigration Litigation: Federal Court and Beyond.” This panel was a joint effort by the Orange County Bar Association’s Immigration and International Law Committee and the Litigation Committee for the Central Florida Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Brittany J. Maxey of Maxey Law Offices in St. Petersburg presented “Best Practices in IP for Legal, Ethical, and Management Issues in Technology” and “IP for Coders and Programmers” at Florida Polytechnic University. She also presented “Intellectual Property Anyone?” on behalf of SCORE at St. Petersburg College.

Raychelle Tasher, law clerk to Chief Bankruptcy Judge Kathy A. Surratt-States, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, spoke at the ABA Business Law Section Spring Meeting in New Orleans on a panel titled “Current Developments in Government Powers in Bankruptcy.”

Andrea McMillan of Law Offices of Andrea D. McMillan, P.A., in West Palm Beach moderated an “Evidence Law Update” seminar with three Palm Beach County judges for the Palm Beach County Bar Association.

Marc Solomon of Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman is serving on a panel on behalf of the board for the Greater Boca Raton Estate Planning Council on how to successfully exit your business.

Alexandra T. M. Taylor of Maxey Law Offices in St. Petersburg has been appointed co-chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the St. Petersburg Bar Young Lawyers Section and has joined the St. Pete Young Professionals Public Policy Committee.

Karyl Argamasilla of Bilzin Sumberg in Miami moderated the Investor Sentiment panel at Bisnow’s Caribbean & LATAM Forum. The panel explored major market trends, projects, and the capital force driving them.

Ronald L. Kammer of Hinshaw & Culbertson in Miami spoke at a conference at the University of Miami on sea-level rise and resiliency planning on a panel titled “Insurance and Extreme Events.” The conference was hosted by the Community Resilience Panel of Washington, D.C.
