John Gihon of Shorstein, Lasnetski and Gihon in Orlando was a panelist at the South Florida Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association annual CLE event in Miami. The panel’s topic was “Advanced Topics in Asylum.” He also provided a seminar to students at the University of Central Florida, “Asylum 101: What is Asylum, How Can You Apply and What is the Benefit?”

Johnny L. McCray, Jr., of the Law Office of Johnny L. McCray, Jr.,in Pompano Beach received the 2018 Harry Gulkin Award from the Broward Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.

Lisa McGlynn of Fisher Philips in Tampa is spearheading a team for the Tampa Great Strides Walk. The 5K is the largest national fundraising event to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Colleen A. White of the Law Office of Colleen A. White of Jacksonville Beach has been elected president of the Jacksonville Beaches Bar Association.

Russel Lazega of Florida Advocates, a private law firm, has been installed as the president of the South Broward Bar Association. Lazega’s Grouchy Dog Films has also signed a deal with Belgian film company, Umedia, to help adapt his book, “Managing Bubbie,” into a motion picture.

Professor H.T. Smith of FIU College of Law in Miami presented a seminar to the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Office, “Cross-Examination: Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee,” and served on a panel sponsored by the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr., Bar Association to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Jennifer Fowler-Hermes of Williams Parker in Sarasota presented “Just Another Manic Monday: Wild and Wacky Employment Law Cases” to the Hospitality Financial and Technical Professionals University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Chapter.

Jin Liu of Carlton Fields in Tampa has been admitted as a fellow to the American College of Mortgage Attorneys.

David W. Grossman of Simon, Reed & Salazar in Miami and Ray Miller of Gunster in Miami spoke to the University of Miami College of Law on “Why Civility Matters” as part of the Civility Series sponsored by the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Thomas Mullin from Nason Yeager Gerson White & Lioce in Palm Beach County was elected to the board of directors of the Florida Association of Environmental Professionals.

Rachael B. Santana of Lewis, Longman & Walker in West Palm Beach graduated from the Florida Natural Resources Leadership Institute and to mark her graduation, she gave a presentation detailing her practicum project with the Brevard County Sustainability Working Group.

Jeffrey C. Lynne of Beighley, Myrick, Udell & Lynne in Boca Raton spoke on the law and ethics of marketing for drug treatment and sober living providers at Jupiter Medical Center.

Ray de la Cabada of Miami just concluded teaching two courses, one on cross examinations and another on all aspects of litigation, to prosecutors and private attorneys in Buenos Aires and Neuquen, Argentina, for the Latin American Academy of Civil and Criminal Litigation.

Nicholas C. Johnson of Cohen Milstein in Palm Beach Gardens was selected to serve on the Palm Beach County Bar’s Judicial Campaign Practices Commission.

Kim Kolback of the Law Offices of Kimberly Kolback in Miami moderated a panel, “Counseling Your Entertainment Client On Protecting Its Trademarks/Brand Here and Abroad,” during the Annual ABA Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries.

Robert L. Parks of The Law Offices of Robert L. Parks in Miami has been designated a “Distinguished Fellow” by the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.

Michael Haggard of The Haggard Law Firm was awarded the Perry Nichols Lifetime Achievement Award by the
Florida Justice Association and was honored with the Justice For All Award during the 2018 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week Award Ceremony, hosted by the Coral Gables Police Department.

Todd Michaels of The Haggard Law Firm led a seminar during the 2018 FJA Ski CLE Seminar in Utah. He presented “Demystifying Negligent Security.”

Michael Corso of Henderson Franklin in Ft. Myers presented “Ethics for Engineers” to students, faculty, alumni, and industry vendors involved with aerospace engineering worldwide at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Jason Brenner of The Haggard Law Firm was a featured presenter at the 2018 National Drowning Prevention Alliance Educational Conference’s Aquatic Law Symposium in Tampa. He discussed “Developing Theories of Negligence Citing Important Litigation Cases by Firm.”

Dale Appell of Tampa spoke on a panel for the American Bar Association on the topic, “The Legal Implications of Autonomous Vehicles.”

Scott Underwood of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney in Tampa has been named co-chair of the Real Estate Committee of the American Bankruptcy Institute.

Denise Beamer, senior assistant attorney general of the Office of the Attorney General, Consumer Protection Division, served as a panelist at the Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission joint policy forum aimed at furthering the fight against illegal robocalls and caller ID spoofing.

Dave Blake of Morgan & Morgan in Sarasota was inducted into the Sarasota/Bradenton chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Melissa Bernheim of AXS Law Group in Miami participated on a panel at the ABA’s Business Law Section’s Spring Meeting in Orlando, “Franchise Disclosure Agreements to Chapter 11 Disclosure Statements: A Deep Dive Into Thorny Franchise Insolvency Issues.”

Ellen Hirsch de Haan of Wetherington Hamilton in Tampa received the Don Buck Lifetime Contribution Award at the College of Community Association Lawyers 2018 Law Conference in Palm Springs, CA. The award recognizes attorneys who exhibit exceptional leadership in the field of community association law.

Brian Koch of Greenberg Traurig in Ft. Lauderdale moderated a professionalism CLE with Broward circuit judges and was a panelist for a Broward Bar CLE for social media usage among attorneys.

David W. Henry of Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin in Orlando co-presented a mediation seminar for the Orange County Bar Association’s ADR, “The Next To Last Mediation Seminar You Will Ever Need.”

Yelizaveta “Liz” Batres Herman of the Palm Beach County Attorney’s Office in West Palm Beach organized and gave opening remarks at “Demystifying Judicial Nominations: Navigating the Appointment Process to the Bench or Judicial Nominating Commission” hosted by the Palm Beach County Chapter of FAWL.

Lisa McGlynn and Brett Owens of Fisher Phillips in Tampa presented “Sexual Harassment and Bullying in the Workplace” at a recent breakfast briefing hosted at the firm.

Leslie M. Kroeger of Cohen Milstein in Palm Beach Gardens presented, “Building Relationships to Build Your Business Outside of the ‘Good Ole Boys’ Network,” at 360 Advocacy’s 2018 Trial Skills from the Woman’s Perspective Conference.

Alana Greer and Meena Jagannath, co-founders of the Community Justice Project in Miami, were named Advocates of the Year by City Year at the Annual Red Jacket Women’s Leadership Luncheon.

Matthew Konecky of Palm Beach Gardens presented a panel discussion to Keiser University’s criminal justice students about DUI cases with a former Palm Beach Sheriff Office DUI investigator.

Tori Simmons of Hill Ward Henderson in Tampa received the 13th Circuit’s “Pro Bono Service by a Young Lawyer” award.

Brett Owens of Fisher Phillips in Tampa has been named a member of the Mentor Network for the Tampa Bay Wave, a community-driven nonprofit that supports the success of Tampa Bay’s tech entrepreneurs.

Nat Nason of Nason Yeager in West Palm Beach received the Service Above Self Award from the West Palm Beach Rotary Club for his 25 years of community service.

Todd Michaels and Doug McCarron of The Haggard Law Firm were panelists during two sessions of this year’s SuperStars in a trial program hosted by the Dade County Bar Association. McCarron was part of the panel addressing “Legal Issues involving Social Media,” while Michaels was included in a session moderated by two judges discussing “Legal Feedback.”
