Lawyers to the Rescue recently held a fundraiser for the victims of Hurricane Maria at Pinch Me Gastrobar in Coral Gables.
The event featured live music and a paella cook-off. Around 70 South Florida locals and legal professionals came out to support the cause and together helped raise $2,850 for the American Red Cross’ efforts for the hurricane relief.
Lawyers to the Rescue founder, attorney Spencer Aronfeld, created the organization specifically to offer relief for disasters like Hurricane Maria. It was important for him and his wife Dina Aronfeld, co-founder of Lawyers to the Rescue, to have a way to respond to catastrophic emergencies regardless of where in the world they may occur. Encouraging legal professionals in the South Florida community to support these causes is an ongoing goal for Spencer Aronfeld and Lawyers to the Rescue.
In addition to responding to disasters around the world, Lawyers to the Rescue continually offers its support locally by organizing pro bono legal clinics at Camillus House in Miami, in an effort to rehabilitate the local homeless community. Clinics take place every third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. -12 p.m., and are offered as a service to residents of the homeless shelter to provide legal aid and assistance on matters relating to criminal, family, immigration, disability, human rights, and personal injury. Lawyers to the Rescue is comprised of a team of attorneys and law students who assist in immediate counseling on legal issues, as well as intake and coordination of case referrals for urgent and specialized matters outside the scope of in-house clinic counseling.
