Minority Mentoring Picnic scheduled for November 10
Where can law students get advice from federal judges, feast on Jamaican jerk chicken, compete in a volleyball tournament, and leave with the names of lawyers and judges as willing mentors?
At the Ninth Annual Kozyak Minority Mentory Picnic on Saturday, November 10 at Amelia Earhart Park at 401 E. 65th Street in Hialeah.
Beginning at noon, legal luminaries will shed their suits and robes and get comfortable in shorts and T-shirts in a fun event billed as an opportunity to celebrate and encourage diversity in the legal profession.
The picnic’s creator, Miami lawyer John Kozyak, said he was “blown away by the enthusiasm and positive energy” of last year’s picnic that drew an estimated crowd of 3,000, including busloads of law students from across the state, Supreme Court Justice Peggy Quince, and Bar President Scott Hawkins.
Florida Bar President Gwynne Young has already promised to attend the event that draws eager law students to the Leaders and Legends tent, where seasoned lawyers and judges share encouragement and advice.
“During the past 10 years we have helped match more than 1,000 minority law students and actually have a waiting list of outstanding, experienced judges and lawyers eager to assist.
