Fourth DCA begins e-filing
The Fourth District Court of Appeal announces the commencement of electronic filing in the court, available to all registered attorneys.
The court has installed the web based application eDCA, which is also used in the First and Fifth DCAs. As of May 1 electronic filing of all documents and briefs is mandatory.
Thanks to the cooperation and assistance of the clerk’s offices for Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, Indian River, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee counties, as of May 1 all records will also be filed electronically with the court.
The website for filing is available as a link through the Fourth DCA website www.4dca.org, or directly at https://edca.4dca.org. Attorneys with a Bar number may register on the website by clicking on the upper tab “edca” and following the prompts. Each attorney will receive an email notification that his or her registration has been accepted.
The court has adopted several administrative orders regarding the specifics of e-filing. Orders 13-1 through 13-4 are available on the court’s website by clicking on “Electronic Filing Information” in the red box. The e-primer included in that information also provides useful information on how to e-file.
Because mandatory e-filing begins on May 1, it will no longer be necessary to email briefs to the court. After May 1 no paper filings will be accepted from attorneys. Filers of electronic documents will receive an email confirming acceptance of the document by the court.
Any authorized document filed in an appeal or petition shall be in Adobe Portable Document Format (pdf) in searchable text. Any appendices shall also be filed in pdf and provide either hyperlinks in the index or a bookmark in Adobe Acrobat for each item in the index.
The court’s move to electronic filing will be prospective only. Paper documents are not being scanned in. Attorneys will have access to any e-filed document in their cases.
