The Florida Department of Environmental Protection Office of General Counsel in Tallahassee is seeking an experienced litigator to represent the Department in federal, state, and administrative proceedings and act as the Assistant Deputy General Counsel in the Defense Section, which represents the Department’s regulatory programs and six Districts in: (1) legal matters involving permitting decisions; (2) challenges to existing and proposed Department rules; (3) state and federal lawsuits filed against the Department; (4) matters involving the Board of Trustees; and (5) various other matters. The successful candidate will have significant responsibility as lead counsel in a range of environmental cases. Managerial responsibilities may include supervising support staff and junior attorneys as well as assuming the functions of the Deputy General Counsel in the Deputy’s absence. Strong ethics and ability to handle high volume case load in a fast paced environment are required. Salary is negotiable, depending on experience; minimum annual salary beginning at $75,000.
