THE LAW FIRM
Presented by the Chief Justice
The purpose of the Law Firm Commendation is to recognize, when appropriate, a law firm which has demonstrated a significant contribution in the delivery of legal services to individuals or groups on a pro bono basis.
LAW FIRM COMMENDATION RECIPIENT
Clark & Washington, P.C.
Clark & Washington, P.C., is one of the largest filers of bankruptcies in the southeastern United States, with offices in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. Clark & Washington provides counsel and support to individuals facing trying financial times and focus exclusively on personal bankruptcy work, specializing in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases. The law firm was co-founded by Emory L. Clark in 1983.
Since its inception, Clark & Washington has striven to help as many people as possible achieve a brighter financial future. This is evident in their lawyers’ strong presence in various community organizations and in their large pro bono case load. Clark & Washington attorneys are thankful for the opportunity to provide much needed assistance to those community members who are unable to obtain it for themselves.
The Tampa location was opened in January 2008. It has a total of five attorneys and eight staff members, led by managing attorney Glenn E. Gallagher. Last year, the Tampa office took 42 referrals cases. Twelve of the cases were referred by the Bay Area Volunteer Lawyers Program.
In 2011, the firm’s Tampa attorneys handled 60 pro bono cases, donating 300 hours of service. In 2009 the firm offered to accept all pro bono cases referred to it from the BAVLP and the Tampa Bay Hispanic Bar Association. That kind act significantly reduced the backlog of bankruptcy cases awaiting placement.
