Bilzin Sumberg establishes scholarship to honor Dunn

To honor the memory of Damion Dunn who passed away last year, Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod has created the “Bilzin Sumberg Scholarship in Memoriam of Damion Dunn.”

Dunn was a Bilzin Sumberg litigation associate. Originally from Jamaica, he moved to Miami and attended Florida International University for undergrad followed by Harvard law school. At the age of 30, Dunn died in a motorcycle accident.

Established as part of Bilzin Sumberg Cares, the firm’s charitable involvement and diversity initiative, the $7,500 scholarship will be awarded to a FIU Honors College student who intends to pursue a career in law and has demonstrated leadership ability in extracurricular activities.

“Through this scholarship, we hope to pay tribute to Damion’s memory by helping to support a student who aspires to become a lawyer,” said David Gersten, chair of Bilzin Sumberg’s appellate practice.

The recipient will receive the scholarship over four years of undergraduate studies and must maintain a 3.0 GPA. He or she will be selected primarily on the basis of academic performance or potential. To honor Dunn’s culture, preference will be given to candidates who share his Jamaican heritage.
