THE CITY OF ORLANDO is seeking a Civil Traffic Infraction Hearing Officer to conduct administrative hearings related to notices of violation issued for red light infractions in accordance with s.316.0083, Florida Statutes. Qualified applicant must be a member of The Florida Bar in good standing for at least 5 years; not already serving as a hearing officer for another local jurisdiction or for the State of Florida; and must have completed, or be willing to complete, a 40-hour education and training program approved by the Florida Supreme Court. Compensation will be $250.00 per hour for a maximum of four hours of service when scheduled, which is anticipated to be one day a month. Martin County is seeking an Assistant County Attorney with litigation experience. Experience with litigation on behalf of local government in Florida preferred. In addition to litigation, responsibilities will include providing legal advice, analysis, and opinions upon request for appointed county officials, administrative management staff, and advisory boards; drafting non-litigation documents; responding to public inquiries; and handling related matters. Litigation background must include 3 to 7 years of progressively greater responsibility for conducting depositions and other pre-trial discovery, drafting of pleadings and motions, and conducting evidentiary hearings and jury trials. Experience handling contested administrative hearings and prosecuting appeals is also highly desirable. Applicants must have a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school, be admitted to practice law in Florida, and be a member in good standing of The Florida Bar. Knowledge of Florida judicial procedures and the rules of evidence, familiarity with state and federal law as applied to county government, the capability to exercise good independent judgment, and effective oral and written communication skills are essential. Florida Bar board certification in City, County, and Local Government Law is desirable, but not required. Salary range is $76,000-98,400, with actual salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
