OCBA offers new lawyer training
The Orange County Bar Association will kick off a high-profile education outreach program — New Lawyer Training Program: The Fundamentals of Practice in Orange County — August 2-3 at the OCBA center in downtown Orlando.
The New Lawyer Training Program is a two-day introduction to the practical aspects of practicing in the Ninth Circuit.
“We want to support young lawyers, as well as students who are about ready to graduate from law school or sit for the bar exam, by providing them with practical information,” said OCBA President Paul Scheck. “Offering young lawyers an opportunity to meet and learn from judicial assistants and judges, for example, will go a long way toward augmenting the legal training these young adults received in law school by familiarizing them with courtroom processes and procedures.”
In addition to holding sessions in the Orange County Courthouse and helping young attorneys and would-be attorneys navigate the system, attendees will receive tips on the importance of professionalism in the courtroom, and learn about best practice techniques directly from judges, JAs, the public defender, and the state attorney on day one; day two addresses the “what ifs” — as in “What if I don’t get hired by an established firm?” or “What if I decide to go solo?” Central Florida attorneys will discuss the pros and cons of going solo, and business and marketing professionals will discuss insurance needs, asset protection, trust accounting, and law practice management tools for the potential solo or small firm practitioner.
Applications are accepted through July 15. The fee is $150, payable in two installments. Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon networking receptions are included in the application fee.
