Professionalism Awards

The Standing Committee on Professionalism organizes and administers an annual awards program. Winners are recognized each year at the Annual Florida Bar Convention Judicial Luncheon. Nominations for the 2026 applications closed Feb. 6, 2026. Nominations typically open in December and close in February.

Patricia Ann Seitz Outstanding Lawyer Professionalism Award

Established in 2026, this award recognizes an attorney who has made a significant difference in the practice of law and the community because of the individual’s personal and professional ethics and conduct. The award will be given to an attorney who:

  • has been in practice for more than 10 years and is older than 36 years of age;
  • has exhibited superior legal ability in his or her field of practice;
  • has demonstrated true professionalism and is respected for ethical practice;
  • is recognized by the general public and by the legal community for serving as a “mentor” or assisting others in the practice of law; and
  • has performed service to the community on a personal level and has been involved in local, state, and/or national Bar service, and remains an ongoing participant in bar-related activities.

Group Professionalism Award

The Group Professionalism Award recognizes a program instituted and coordinated by a bar association, judicial organization, inn of court, or law school organization aimed at enhancing professionalism among lawyers and law students.

William M. Hoeveler Judicial Professionalism Award

This award recognizes an active judge who best exemplifies strength of character, service and competence as a jurist, lawyer, and public servant.

Nominees should be judges in active service who have communicated their dedication to the ideals of justice and demonstrated diligence in inspiring others to the mission of professionalism, though any judge who served in active or senior capacity with one year preceding the February deadline is eligible for nomination.

Law Faculty/Administrator Professionalism Award

This award recognizes a faculty member or administrator of one of Florida’s law schools who best exemplifies the mission of the Standing Committee on Professionalism.
