What are the benefits to being a mentor?
Through Counsel to Counsel, established lawyers can share their insights and experiences with young lawyers – in turn getting fresh perspectives, expanding their networks, and securing their own professional legacies.
Our research shows that:
- Mentors are six times more likely to be promoted compared to others in their field.
- As mentees move on to have successes of their own, their mentors can increase their own reputation within the field and their networks.
- Mentors can gain exposure to new ideas, educational methods, technologies, and perspectives through conversations with their mentees.
- Mentorship provides a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction from helping others and contributing to the development of others in the profession.
- Florida Bar members who participate as mentors can earn CLE credit.
What guidance is provided for mentors?
Mentors will be provided with a packet with milestones and examples of how to reach each one. Pairs must complete at least one activity from each of the four milestones and complete five Practical Experience requirements.
How will I be matched with a mentee?
You can select up to two potential mentees via the MentorcliQ app based on your profile, relationship preferences, and personality test results. A program administrator will then match you with your mentee.
How do I make initial contact with my mentee?
You can connect virtually via the MentorcliQ app, which can eventually lead to an in-person meeting with your mentee.
How often should I meet with my mentee?
Participation requires at least four meetings with your mentee over the span of the nine month program and follow-up discussions after the Practical Experience requirements are met.
How should I communicate with my mentee?
Communication should occur through the MentorcliQ app or in-person.
What should I discuss with my mentee?
What you discuss with your mentee is up to you! The program focuses on four milestones that serve as a guide:
- Career planning and professional development
- Lawyer-client relationship
- Lawyer-Bar relationship
- Client development and community involvement
Will I have to evaluate my mentee?
MentorcliQ allows you to measure mentoring success as a tool to facilitate a mutually beneficial relationship.
