LEGISLATION ADDRESSES ‘NO-SHOW’ JURORS

A proposal that would limit the penalties judges could impose on so-called “no-show” jurors is heading to the Senate floor. The Senate Rules Committee voted Feb. 19 to approve SB 1590 by Sen. Bobby Powell, D-West Palm Beach. The measure was prompted by a 2019 contempt-of-court case in which a 15th Circuit judge ordered a 21-year-old West Palm Beach man to serve 10 days in jail.
