'We encourage all of our local heroes who do not have a basic estate plan in place to register and participate this year, and we are grateful for the talented and generous private pro bono attorneys who are donating their time and skill to serve the heroes.'

Legal Aid Service of Collier CountyThe Legal Aid Service of Collier County in partnership with the Trusts & Estates Section of the Collier County Bar Association will hold its 15th Annual “Wills for Heroes” pro bono event on Saturday, November 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Legal Aid Service of Collier County on Tamiami Trail East in Naples.

“On behalf of Legal Aid and our pro bono attorneys I want to express a heartfelt thanks to all of our Collier County veterans, police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and first responders for their outstanding service to our community and our great country,” said Jeff Ahren, Legal Aid Service of Collier County’s regional director of development. “We encourage all of our local heroes who do not have a basic estate plan in place to register and participate this year, and we are grateful for the talented and generous private pro bono attorneys who are donating their time and skill to serve the heroes.”

Legal Aid is always in need of new volunteers to help plan, promote, support, and conduct its special events. Volunteers may sign up here.

The free service prepares wills, medical care directives, powers of attorney, and related basic estate planning instruments free of charge for Collier County’s “heroes” — active and retired veterans, reservists, police officers, firefighters, EMTs/first responders, and their spouses.

To participate, “heroes” are urged pre-register online at https://www.collierlegalaid.org/wills-for-heroes-2024 and download the Wills for Heroes intake form. Alternatively, the form is available by contacting Legal Aid at 239-298-8138 or via email to [email protected]. The event is open to all qualified individuals; those who have not pre-registered can seek assistance as a “walk up” applicant. However, there are limited opportunities for these services and preference will be given to those who have registered in advance.

Participants must be Florida residents and will need to present a military or appropriate service ID to receive services. VA cards are accepted as a form of ID.

Tax planning and tax advice will not be provided during this special event.
