ABA honors Brown as a diversity trailblazer
FLORIDA BAR MEMBER DONISE E. BROWN, second from the left, is one of the five “diversity trailblazers” across the country honored with 2020 Spirit of Excellence Award by the ABA Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession. These awards celebrate the efforts and accomplishments of lawyers who excel in their professional settings; who personify excellence on the national, state, or local level; and who have demonstrated a commitment to racial and ethnic diversity in the field of law. Brown, a director-corporate counsel for Starbucks Corporation in Coral Gables, accepted her award by quoting Thurgood Marshall, who said “none of us got where we are solely by pulling up ourselves by our bootstraps. We are here because somebody…bent down and helped us pick up our boots.” (Click here to watch video of Brown’s remarks.) Also pictured, from the left are Spirit of Excellence awardees Richard Pena, Patty Ferguson-Bohnee, Judge Lora J. Livingston, and Donald K. Tamaki. Brown is responsible for providing legal support for Starbucks corporate and retail real estate matters in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. She’s also featured this month in Starbucks’ celebration of Black History Month.
