Annual Florida Bar Convention gets underway in Boca Raton
The installation of Sarasota’s F. Scott Westheimer as The Florida Bar’s 75th president and Miami attorney Roland Sanchez-Medina as president-elect will highlight the 2023 Annual Florida Bar Convention, held in Boca Raton June 21-24.
The convention, including the General Assembly, seminars, committee meetings, and social functions, will take place at The Boca Raton.
The theme of this year’s convention, “Ready, Set, Connect!,” recognizes the annual event’s status as the best opportunity for Florida lawyers to connect and network with one another. From section and committee meetings and luncheons receptions to outstanding continuing legal education seminars, participants will have multiple opportunities to interact with peers and enhance their professional lives.
Convention highlights include:
- Judicial Luncheon Honoring Florida’s Judiciary: Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Carlos G. Muñiz will deliver the State of the Judiciary address.
- General Assembly: This centerpiece event, held June 23, will feature a State of the Bar address by outgoing President Gary Lesser and the presentation of his President’s Awards. Incoming Bar officers and Board of Governors members will also be installed, and incoming President Westheimer will deliver remarks that lay out the priorities for the year.
- 50-Year Member Luncheon: The Florida Bar will honor attorneys and senior counselors for 50 years of dedication to the practice of law during a luncheon on Friday, June 23. The Florida Bar will also recognize other veteran lawyers at the luncheon. Former Supreme Court Justice Barbara Pariente will provide the keynote address and be among those honored as 50-year members. Other presentations will include Justice Jorge Labarga recognizing 50-year member and former Bar President Hank Coxe and Board of Governors member Sia Baker-Barnes recognizing Judge Patricia Seitz, also a 50-year member and former Bar president.
- President’s Reception: This event, taking place on Friday, June 23, at 5:30 p.m., is presented by the Annual Convention Sponsors.
