Applicants sought for Florida Board of Bar Examiners attorney vacancies
The Florida Bar Board of Governors is seeking applicants for the following vacancies on the Florida Board of Bar Examiners. Nominations will be made during the Board of Governors’ May 15 meeting. Lawyer applicants must be active members of The Florida Bar, for at least 5 years and be in good standing.
Florida Board of Bar Examiners Vacancies: Attorney applicants are being sought to fill two vacancies on the Florida Board of Bar Examiners. A joint screening committee of Florida Bar Board of Governors members and Board of Bar Examiners members will recommend six nominees for two attorney vacancies at its May 15 meeting. The nominations will then be forwarded to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court will appoint two attorneys to fill two five-year terms commencing November 1 and expiring on October 31, 2031. The board ensures that applicants seeking admission to The Florida Bar have met the requirements of the rules with regard to character and fitness, education, and technical competence prior to recommending to the Supreme Court an applicant’s admission to The Florida Bar.
Attorney members must have been an active member of The Florida Bar for at least five years, maintain active membership while serving on the board, and be deemed qualified by the court to assess whether applicants meet the essential eligibility requirements for admission under the Rules of the Supreme Court Relating to Admissions to the Bar. Appointment or election to the bench at any level of the court system will disqualify any applicant. Law professors or trustees are ineligible to serve on the Florida Board of Bar Examiners.
Board members of the Bar Examiners must be able to attend approximately 10 meetings a year in various Florida locations. Members should be willing and able to devote the equivalent of 3-4 days’ work a month, or up to 350 or more hours per year on board business, depending on committee assignments. Actual travel expenses connected with the meetings and examinations are reimbursed.
The vacancies will occur on November 1 with the expiration of the terms of Victoria J. Wilson of Miami and Cristina E. Groschel of Broward County.
Applications will be accepted until close of business on Monday, March 23. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of the required application. The joint screening committee of The Florida Bar Board of Governors members and Florida Board of Bar Examiners members will review all applications and may request personal interviews at an in-person meeting location or virtually by Zoom.
