Bar Examiners seek volunteer proctors for the August 19 online bar exam
The Florida Board of Bar Examiners is seeking volunteers to proctor its August 19 online bar examination, according to Michele Gavagni, the organization’s executive director.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person administration of this year’s bar exam was canceled by the Bar Examiners and the Supreme Court in the interest of the health and safety of the applicants.
In its place, the court approved the administration of a one-day online bar examination on August 19. This bar exam is to be remotely proctored in real time during the administration of the examination.
The Bar Examiners needs proctors for this administration of the examination on August 19. Proctors will need to be available between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on August 19.
“If a full-day commitment is not possible, volunteers can select a morning or afternoon session only if that is all their schedules will permit,” Gavagni said.
Proctoring requires the following:
- A commitment to attend an online training webinar of no more than two hours the week of August 10. The Bar Examiners will schedule multiple webinar times to ensure the volunteers are able to attend the training webinar.
- A commitment to proctor from 8 a.m. to 12:30 pm and/or 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19. There will be a one-hour lunch break in the daily testing schedule.
- A laptop or desktop computer with a reliable high-speed internet connection. A connection of 5mbps or greater is recommended.
- A speaker or headphones for audio capabilities. A proctor does not need a webcam to proctor the examination. Only the applicants require a webcam.
- A phone with texting capability to text Bar Examiners administrators is recommended, but a direct phone line will also be provided for calling the Bar Examiners during the testing day.
Gavagni said it would be very helpful to receive volunteer commitments by Monday, August 3. Volunteers may email the Bar Examiners at [email protected] with their name, email address, best direct number to contact them, and time commitment (a.m., p.m., or full day).
“On behalf of the entire board, thank you for considering this request for assistance with the online examination next month,” Gavagni said.
