Bar President Baker-Barnes addresses court PIOs on 'Our Shared Mission'

Baker-Barnes spoke to the group at its annual educational conference in St. Augustine.
Florida Bar President Rosalyn Sia Baker-Barnes addressed members of the Florida Courts Public Information Officers on October 15 at the group’s annual conference in St. Augustine. She emphasized the symbiotic relationship between attorneys and public information officers for the state court system in her remarks, titled “Our Shared Mission.”
“When we talk about our shared mission, you are the bridges to the people we serve,” Barker-Barnes said to 30 members gathered for the conference. “Transparency, trust, civility – these are the pillars that uphold what we do as lawyers and those are the same things you do to uphold the work of the courts.”
Julio Semino, director of court programs at the Orlando-based Ninth Judicial Circuit and president of FCPIO, introduced Baker-Barnes during the educational conference.
“It was great to hear from Ms. Baker-Barnes and to understand how the jobs we do as PIOs are seen as in support of the justice system, not just the courts,” Semino said. “She represents more than 115,000 attorneys, officers of the court, and it was valuable to better understand the Bar’s perspective.”
FCPIO, founded in 2007, has a mission to promote professional education of Florida’s court public information officers and to support the professionalism of its members throughout the state.
Others presenting sessions at the conference include John Torres, a reporter at Florida Today, discussing true crime podcasts, and author Gilbert King talking about his recent work, including an upcoming Netflix series and his recent book "Bone Valley." The group also heard remarks from Seventh Circuit Chief Judge Leah R. Case.
