Bar’s COVID-19 web page designed to keep members informed
Featured prominently are links to the latest from the Bar News, as well as links to all of the trial and appellate court websites so members can check for orders and to the Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers site so members may check their county clerk’s page. It also links to the two federal acts and guidance from the relevant federal agencies and links to other federal agencies and their updates that may assist Florida Bar members.
The page also features a message from Florida Bar President John Stewart.
“In the midst of the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis, all of our lives, personally and professionally, have been impacted,” Stewart says. “However, we at The Florida Bar want to make sure that you have the latest information on what our Bar is doing and where you can find important information during this stressful time.”
The page is constantly updated with lists and links to Supreme Court administrative orders and announcements, and links to a list of trial courts’ emergency orders and directives, including closures and all district court notices.
“This page should also meet the goal of reducing the volume of emails for members while increasing the ease of finding and receiving local information,” Stewart noted.
The web page groups information into four topic areas: “Court Orders & News,” “Bar Announcements,” “Member Resources” and “Consumer Resources.”
The Court Orders & News Page includes the most recent Supreme Court orders and announcements, a link to Florida clerks of courts, court-specific resources, and links to Florida-based federal courts.
The page lists and links to all Supreme Court administrative orders related to the emergency, including the suspension of jury trials and most non-essential, in-person proceedings, as well as a suspension of deadlines for bar regulatory cases.
The Bar Announcements page includes an update on the status of board certification deadlines and events, as well as the status of upcoming meetings and CLE events, and links to the Florida Board of Bar Examiners and Bar-related classes and events.
The page also has a link to voluntary bar associations and locally sponsored events.
The Member Resources Page includes recent news, ethics updates, upcoming webinars from Florida Bar member benefits providers, and practice tips for dealing with coronavirus.
Included are links to free webinars, such as, “How to Run Your Law Firm Remotely During COVID-19,” “Disaster and Succession Planning for Law Firms: How to Prepare for Unprecedented Events,” and “How to Build a Virtual Law Firm, and Why You Should.”
The Consumer Resources page has a link for filing Florida Bar complaints, and links to Florida Bar consumer pamphlets, Free Legal Answers — the online legal aid program — and Florida pro bono matters.
The page also features government resources, including links to the Florida governor’s and attorney general’s offices, and information regarding price gouging statutes.
The consumer page also includes vital coronavirus control and prevention information, with links to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
In his message, Stewart invites members to contact him to share their concerns, and pledges that the Bar will continue to fulfill its mission.
“We recognize the myriad serious challenges this crisis creates for our members,” Stewart said. “We are here to assist in any way we can.”
