Broward legal aid honors volunteers
Broward Lawyers Care — the pro bono project of Legal Aid Service of Broward County — and Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida recently honored Michele K. Cummings as its 2015 Attorney of the Year and Kirschbaum, Birnbaum, Lippman & Gregoire as its Law Firm of the Year.
Cummings is a shareholder at GrayRobinson and has taken 21 pro bono cases since 1990, “quietly and consistently handling about one case per year.” On one recent case, Cummings logged over 90 hours. The final result included recovery of child support, alimony, plus a lump sum payment for the client, and a permanent domestic violence injunction. Throughout the case, the abusive ex-husband made threats against both the client and Cummings.
KBLG has been actively involved with LAS and CCLA for years.
“They have continually brought resources to bear that improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” according to Broward Lawyers Care. “Members of the firm take pro bono cases and contribute volunteer service to CCLA and LAS among other organizations in the community.”
The firm also has actively been involved with the Mission United Veterans Pro Bono Project, which provides free, civil legal representation to eligible service members, veterans, and their families.
