Broward State Attorney Harold F. Pryor and his team were recognized recently by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County for their commitment to youth mentoring through the organization’s BIG Futures program.
Pryor and members of the Broward County State Attorney’s Office were honored during the fourth annual Big Thank You Breakfast on January 21 at the Miramar Cultural Center, held in celebration of National Mentoring Month. The office was recognized as an “Igniter of Big Futures” for its ongoing work meeting monthly with student mentees and supporting BBBS’s mission to expand access to mentoring opportunities.
Pryor said the partnership reflects both a professional and personal commitment. As a college student, Pryor once served as a Big himself and experienced firsthand the impact mentoring can have. He later brought that opportunity to his office, encouraging staff to participate and give back to the community they serve.
First elected Broward State Attorney in November 2020, Pryor leads more than 460 employees, including 213 prosecutors, investigators, victim advocates, and support staff. He is the first Black state attorney in Broward County and the first Black man elected state attorney in Florida. Pryor has emphasized justice, equity, and community engagement as central to his administration.
Big Brothers Big Sisters officials praised the Broward State Attorney’s Office for its sustained involvement and the mutual benefits of the mentoring relationships, noting that both mentors and students gain valuable insight through shared experiences.
The annual breakfast recognizes individuals and organizations that support BBBS’s mission to build stronger futures for Broward County youth.
