Welcome ReceptionCompetitors from across the country will gather in Tallahassee in November for the inaugural Claude Pepper Elder Law Moot Court Competition.

The event, sponsored by the Florida State University Claude Pepper Elder Law Clinic, will kick off with a reception Thursday, November 2, from 4-6 p.m. in the D’Alemberte Rotunda at the FSU College of Law. Leading FSU researchers in aging policy will be in attendance and elder law attorneys are welcome. Refreshments will be provided and a guest speaker will discuss current issues in aging.

The competition begins Friday, November 3. The students will argue on issues related to undue influence, exploitation, and standing in guardianship cases. The rounds will be held in the Advocacy Center, which was previously home to Florida’s First District Court of Appeal.

Claude Pepper represented Florida in the U.S. Senate from 1936 to 1951, and the Miami area in the House from 1963 until 1989. Pepper chaired the House Committee on Aging.
