Two South Florida attorneys were recognized for their commitment to public service at Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida’s (CCLA) inaugural Pro Bono Reception, held September 18 at the Ft. Lauderdale office of Weiss Serota Helfman Cole + Bierman.
Jill A. Ginsberg of Ginsberg Shulman received the Attorney of the Year Award for her leadership in CCLA’s Advanced Directives Clinic for Seniors. Through her guidance, seniors across Broward County gained legal protections, including powers of attorney, health care surrogates, and living wills, helping them safeguard their rights and independence.
Alison F. Smith of Weiss Serota Helfman Cole + Bierman was presented with the Chairperson’s Award, which is given to a former member of CCLA’s Board of Directors who has continued to champion and support the mission of CCLA. Smith’s dedication to public service and her ongoing advocacy for equal access to justice exemplify the impact of engaged community leadership, according to the organization.
“Our inaugural Pro Bono Reception was an opportunity to highlight the profound difference that committed attorneys make in the lives of our clients,” said Lisa Goldberg, executive director of CCLA. “Jill and Alison represent the very best of our legal community — dedicating their time, talent, and passion to ensure that justice is available to everyone, not just those who can afford it.”
The evening brought together leaders from the private bar, judiciary, and community partners to celebrate CCLA’s mission and the role pro bono attorneys play in expanding access to justice throughout South Florida.
