Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida receives disaster relief grant

Hurricane Irma caused more than two dozen deaths, knocking down power lines, flooding streets, and leaving a trail of destruction across the state. Weeks after Irma made landfall, Hurricane Maria ravaged Puerto Rico nearly destroying the entire island. More than 200,000 displaced Puerto Ricans evacuated after the storm looking for a chance to start over, many landing in Central Florida.

As a result of these two devastating hurricanes, thousands of people are still dealing with the effects a year later. In many cases, these long-standing issues require legal action to reach a solution. Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida recently received a Legal Services Corporation grant of $731,459 to improve awareness of available disaster-related legal services and benefits in Central Florida and to address unresolved legal issues after the hurricanes.
