Attention, South Florida legal community, one of the most popular fundraisers of the year — “Dade Legal Aid Annual Battle of the Legal Bands” — is just around the corner.

Tickets for the September 10 event are available for $20 at, or for $25 at the door.

“Proceeds from the event will support Dade Legal Aid, that provides critical civil legal services to low-income residents of Miami-Dade County,” the group said in a statement.

The event will feature four bands made up exclusively of lawyers — and one judge:

Chillable Hours — Comprised entirely of UM law school grads, the band features Jeff Kucera, a partner with K&L Gates, on guitar; Joe Wasserkrug, an associate with McDermott Will & Emery, on bass; Jordan Shaw, a partner with Zebersky, Payne, Shaw, Lewenz on drums; Dan Silver, a partner with PraDa Law on keyboard; and Freddi Mack, a Miami Beach senior assistant city attorney, on vocals.

“When this group of talented lawyers and musicians isn’t preparing for clients, court, and cases, its rocking and rehearsing in hopes of making it big on the stage and touring worldwide,” organizers say.

LLP — The “official Shutts & Bowen house band” was founded in 2015. It feature Shutts & Bowen partner John Meagher, guitar/vocals; Shutts & Bowen partner Frank A. Zacherl, guitar/vocals; Joanne Meagher, vocals/percussion; Jose Godur, drums; Shutts & Bowen associate Damien Reynolds, bass guitar/vocals; Shutts & Bowen partner Jake Monk, alto Saxophone; and Dimitri Godur, guitar.

“All of their members come from trained musical backgrounds and have extensive experience with live performances,” organizers say. “With this being their second appearance at Legal Aid’s event, LLP is just warming up.”

The 540s — “Another crowd favorite,” according to organizers, the group features Judge Carlos H. Gamez, Miami-Dade County judge, Saxophone/lead vocals; Christopher A. Green, senior assistant city attorney/Litigation Division chief, rhythm guitar; Michael A. Mesa, president, Mesa & Mesa Accounting & Tax Services, bass and background vocals; Richard Santo, manager, Legal Radius Deposition Management Systems, lead/rhythm guitar, background vocals; Alejandro Herrera, exclusive real estate advisor, Avanti Way Realty, drums; and Adam Weirich, managing director/principal, Equitable Advisors, keyboards.

The Urge — “A rock cover band making their eighth consecutive appearance at Legal Aid,” according to organizers, the band features Fred Fein, managing partner, Clyde & Coe, lead vocals/guitar; Mark Meland, partner, Meland Budwick, P.A., lead vocal/bass; Joe Hernandez, partner, Weiss Serota Helfman Coe & Bierman, lead guitar/vocals; and Frank Del Campillo, drums.

“Playing together since 1996, they have hundreds of songs in their repertoire, and over 100 years of combined experience performing in a variety of bands,” organizers say. “They’re no longer interested in ‘making it’ in the music business as they are devoted to their families and careers — their love for music gives them the ‘urge’ to perform.”
