E-Filing AuthorityAccording to the latest statistics from the Florida Courts E-Filing Authority, the court system’s statewide E-Filing Portal reached the peak of the summer doldrums in July. Total documents filed through the Portal were 2.42 million (in 1.64 million submissions) in July, down 7% from the previous month, and 13% from the record high setback in March of 2022.

During their meeting August 19 in Sarasota, Portal Program Manager Carolyn Weber told the Florida Courts Technology Commission, “July was a much slower month for us, but our numbers year to date are still up from the previous year.”

The average number of weekday submissions was 84,890 in July. July 26 was the highest volume day of the month, with 92,323 submissions. The lower numbers last month did help to bring down the average number of days to the docket by a whopping 14% to 0.71, which is down from June’s 0.83.

There were 100,202 new cases filed in July, slightly decreasing from the 103,797 cases filed in June. However, the July numbers are up nearly 7% from July 2021. July was the second highest month of new cases filed in the last 12 months.

Filing activity for the appellate courts continued to outpace the 2021 numbers. District courts of appeal saw 10,735 submissions in July, up 3% from the previous year. However, the number of submissions to the Supreme Court dipped slightly, with 297 received.

The e-filing numbers were substantially above numbers from the summer of 2021, and despite the slow July, the number of new cases filed during June and July marked a substantial increase from the previous five months of the year.
