Errata
In our November story on Judge Elijah Williams receiving the Archbishop Edward McCarthy Annual Award for Moral Principles, a keen-eyed reader pointed out an important historical inaccuracy. The article states that Thomas More “was canonized a saint in 1535 by the Roman Catholic Church.”
That’s incorrect — in 1535 King Henry VIII had More beheaded for his refusal to acknowledge Henry as the Supreme Head of the Church of England. He was canonized as a saint in 1935, 400 years after his death.
We appreciate the astute observation of Miguel J. Chamorro of Miami for catching this error and helping us set the record straight.
