The Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is renaming its Tallahassee headquarters in honor of veteran Naples attorney and former FACDL President Gerald “Jerry” Berry.

A ceremony is scheduled for May 6 at the association’s Bronough Street headquarters near the Capitol.

“Mr. Berry served as the president of the organization during negotiations for, purchase of, and remodeling of the building,” the group said in a statement. “Mr. Berry, who has been practicing criminal law for over 40 years, has represented more than a thousand people charged with crimes – from DUI to first-degree murder.”

Board-certified in Criminal Law since 1987, Berry is a member of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers, the American College of Trial Lawyers, and past chair of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers – Criminal Section. He is a former board chair of Innocence Project Florida.

After years of service on the FACDL board of directors, and holding every executive office, Berry became president in 2001-2002.

A former president of the Collier County Bar Association, Berry is past president and founder of the Collier County Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. He was instrumental in the early development of the Collier County Chapter of FACDL, according to a statement.

“Many credit him as the leader who was able to bring together criminal defense attorneys with varied practices to form the chapter,” the group said.
