Florida Bar warns members of ongoing phishing scam impersonating executive director

Editor Top Stories

Red button with word SCAM in the dark, macroThe Florida Bar is warning members about a phishing scam involving fraudulent emails that appear to come from Executive Director Joshua Doyle.

The scam email, which has been reported by multiple members, is designed to look like an official communication from The Florida Bar. It uses a deceptive email address — [email protected] — that is not affiliated with The Florida Bar.

The message claims to be about confirming preferences for secure communication and references a supposed request from “the State Bar of Florida.” It may appear legitimate at first glance, but it is not from Doyle or any Bar staff.

It is a scam.

Members should not respond to the message, click on any links, or provide personal information.

The Florida Bar does not use third-party services like “Virumail” for secure communications and will never request sensitive information in this manner.

Lawyers are always advised to keep their guard up as scammers become increasingly clever in their quest to do harm.

LegalFuel — The Practice Resource Center of The Florida Bar, has additional resources available on its website to help lawyers recognize and avoid becoming victims of a scam.
