Florida lawyers provide aid to Guatemalans

PALM BEACH COUNTY ATTORNEYS Eunice Baros and Richard Hujber, pictured above, along with colleagues Aileen Josephs and Heline Kottler, recently participated in a humanitarian mission to Guatemala to bring water filters, blankets, and solar-operated lights to the remote village of Osuna for the descendants of Maya peoples who were affected by a recent volcano. The lawyers traveled with 20 others from South Florida as part of a project from the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, which partnered with the Jewish community in Guatemala City and Cadena, a committee of volunteers who help in national emergencies. The U.S. delegation also met with representatives of Guatemala’s congress, the country’s first lady, Patricia Marroquin, and attended the opening of Casa Shalom (House of Peace), a school for teenage indigenous students whose studies include working with local business people to learn trades.
