Today’s statewide town hall addressing COVID court operations begins at noon
All Florida Bar members are encouraged to attend this one-hour Zoom event.
As the pandemic continues and recovery plans progress, President Dori Foster-Morales will host a statewide town hall meeting March 30 to provide Florida lawyers with court operations updates and plans and a status report on the legal profession.
This one-hour live continuing legal education credit Zoom program, titled, “Florida Bar Town Hall: COVID-19 Court Operations and Recovery,” is a follow up to the circuit Florida Bar member town halls Foster-Morales held in August and September and it will be recorded for additional viewing.
All Florida Bar members are encouraged to attend the noon to 1 p.m. event.
The program will feature opening remarks by Chief Justice Charles Canady, followed by an update on the efforts of the Workgroup on the Continuity of Court Operations and Proceedings During and After COVID–19 by its chair, Judge Lisa Munyon of Orlando. Lee Circuit Judge Margaret Steinbeck, chair of the Trial Court Budget Commission, will also discuss the branch’s legislative budget request for 2021-22, particularly portions that addresses the trial courts’ pandemic recovery plan and COVID-19 response needs. Bar President-elect Mike Tanner will also talk about the work of the Bar’s Pandemic Recovery Task Force.
“Florida’s court system and legal profession have worked very hard to overcome the many obstacles presented by the pandemic while keeping the wheels of justice in motion,” Foster-Morales said. “I believe that Florida Bar members will benefit greatly by being briefed on court operations and recovery plans by our Judicial Branch leaders at this juncture.”
After opening presentations, Foster-Morales will moderate a panel discussion that will include the results of several audience poll questions, as well as questions submitted on the Zoom platform during the town hall.
“I hope all Florida lawyers take advantage of this fabulous opportunity,” Foster-Morales said.
