‘Freed to Run’ Marathon Series sets off from Tallahassee on its $2.25 million goal for Jacksonville Area Legal Aid
Teams representing the health-care, legal, and business communities each gather pledges of support and complete one of six marathon relays over six days
THE FIRST MARATHON of 2021 Freed-to-Run multi-marathon philanthropic quest in support of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid kicked off November 15 from the steps of the Florida Supreme Court in Tallahassee in route to the Jefferson County Courthouse in Monticello. Teams representing the health-care, legal, and business communities each gather pledges of support and complete one of six marathon relays over six days, ending on the lawn of the Duval County Courthouse November 20. Event founder Mike Freed, right, led the way. Also participating was Florida Bar President Mike Tanner, left, who ran a leg of the marathon. With $1.5 million raised over the last four years, Freed to Run is now closing in on its $2.25 million goal to fully fund an endowment for JALA’s Northeast Florida Medical Legal Partnership, through which its attorneys tackle legal issues from access to health coverage to educational accommodations to safe housing matters for about 200 pediatric patients and their families each year.
