G. Kirk Haas Humanitarian Award scholarship goes to UM student
SECOND-YEAR UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI law student Eleni Irene Constant received the G. Kirk Haas Humanitarian Award scholarship during a luncheon honoring the late Ervin Gonzalez, a Coral Gables trial attorney, at UM on February 28. The award is presented annually by the Florida Bar president to a Bar member for meritorious service to the legal profession. 2017-18 Florida Bar President Michael Higer presented the award posthumously to Gonzalez, and his wife, Janice, selected UM’s law school to award a $3,500 scholarship to a second-year student who demonstrates “an exceptionally high degree of integrity, ethics, professionalism, and a concern for others.” Florida Bar President Michelle Suskauer was on hand to present the scholarship and congratulate Constant, who started law school after teaching elementary school for 10 years. “According to her advisers,” President Suskauer said, “Ms. Constant has consistently upheld academic excellence, was the highest scoring student in the trial skills section of her Litigation Skills Class, and is a very accomplished and hardworking individual.” From the left are Suskauer, Constant, and Higer.
