Judge Michael A. Robinson honored with the Justice Peggy A. Quince Judicial Excellence Award
Seventeenth Circuit Judge Michael A. Robinson has been awarded the Peggy A. Quince Judicial Excellence Award, which is given in recognition of outstanding service and significant contribution to the fair administration of justice for all people.
“I am very honored and humbled to receive this award. Members of the judiciary must follow the law and make rulings accordingly,” Robinson said.
“We are gladiators for justice, equity, [and] fairness for all. We must maintain and support the rule of law.”
Chief Judge Jack Tuter called the honor a consequential achievement, saying “Judge Robinson’s work on the independence and diversity of the judiciary is never ending. There is no judge in this state more deserving of this recognition.”
Benjamin J. Garcia, president of the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association, described Judge Robinson’s impact on the South Florida community as “profound and positive.”
“Your dedication to upholding the highest standards of judicial conduct aligns perfectly with the principles for which this award was established,” Garcia wrote in a letter to Judge Robinson announcing the award. “Your tireless efforts in multiple areas of the law have set a standard of excellence and your impact has been felt far beyond the courtroom.”
The Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter of the National Bar Association presented the award to Judge Robinson on November 22 at the FAMU College of Law in Orlando.
The award is one of many Robinson has garnered over his career. In 2022, he received the Judicial Diversity Initiative Award recognizing judges who promote diversity in the legal profession and on the bench. In 2021, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Broward County Black Pan Hellenic Council. He has also previously been honored by the Broward Bar Association, the
T.J. Reddick Bar Association, the Haitian Bar Association, and the Caribbean Bar Association.
Robinson of Plantation has served the judiciary since 2007, when he was appointed as a general magistrate. In 2010, Gov. Charlie Crist appointed him to serve as a circuit court judge. He currently presides in civil court in Broward County.
