Justice Meredith Sasso and former Justice Kenneth Bell to lead free professionalism CLE

Florida Supreme Court Justice Meredith Sasso and former Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Bell will headline a free CLE later this week, “Perspectives on Professionalism — From Your Office to Tallahassee.”

A 2008 University of Florida law school graduate who was raised in Tallahassee, Sasso was named the Supreme Court’s 93rd justice by Gov. Ron DeSantis in May 2023.

Sasso entered private practice after law school and later served as Chief Deputy General Counsel for former Gov. Rick Scott. A guardian ad litem volunteer, Sasso in 2019 was appointed to the Fifth District Court of Appeal. Just prior to her appointment to the Supreme Court, Sasso was recommissioned to the Sixth District Court of Appeal, where her colleagues elected her chief judge.

Bell, who is of counsel with Gunster, is a 1982 Florida State University law school graduate, and became its first alumnus to serve on the Florida Supreme Court when Gov. Jeb Bush appointed him in 2003. Prior to his appointment, Bell served as a trial judge for 12 years in the First Judicial Circuit, where his family traces its roots to 1819. Bell stepped down from the Supreme Court in 2008.

Guest Speaker Tim Chinaris is a Belmont University emeritus professor of law and a former Florida Bar ethics counsel. Chinaris’ law practice focuses on representing lawyers in disciplinary matters.

Guest speaker Kalinthia Dillard, a 1998 FSU Law graduate, serves as general counsel and deputy inspector general at the Palm Beach County Office of Inspector General. Prior to joining the office nine years ago, Dillard served as a senior attorney with the Palm Beach County School District.

Moderator Dora Kaufman, a 1988 Georgetown Law School graduate, is a shareholder with Liebler, Gonzalez & Portuondo, where her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, banking law, and municipal finance. Kaufman serves on the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association (Broward County Chapter) and has previously served on the Civil Procedure Rules Committee.
