Last call to sign up for the Bar’s new Counsel to Counsel mentoring program
Admissions close on October 18. Mentees will be matched with their mentors by October 20.
Are you a Florida Bar member who’s been practicing for three or fewer years? And, if so, are you looking for some guidance on navigating the profession?
Then you may want to sign up for the new Counsel to Counsel mentoring program.
You can sign up until October 18, and you’ll be matched by October 20 with another Florida Bar member who’s been practicing for five or more years.
So far, 358 members have enrolled, said Katie Young, the staff liaison to the Special Committee on Mentoring New Lawyers, which is administering the program.
Young said the group has been waiting for recent law school graduates who took the bar exam in July to get their scores back, which were released in mid-September.
“We wanted to give them the opportunity to sign up,” said Young. “Our committee just sent out our last calls today.”
Initially, to qualify, new lawyers had to be practicing in a firm of three or fewer people. But Young said the committee expanded the program over the summer after receiving interest from attorneys around the state who didn’t previously qualify.
Immediate past President Gary Lesser formed the Special Committee on Mentoring New Lawyers last year and directed it to create the program, in part, because so much of the profession has become remote after the COVID-19 pandemic.
