Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County celebrates 75 years of service with Justice For All Celebration
On Saturday evening May 11, the doors of the Kravis Center opened with a red carpet to welcome over 500 guests and supporters of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County. The event was a diamond celebration of Legal Aid’s 75 years in Palm Beach County and raised $400,000 for Legal Aid’s 21 programs which serve low-income and vulnerable residents.
The evening honored Legal Aid volunteers and donors who have gone “a step above” in their commitment to providing equal justice for all. Greenberg Traurig was recognized with the “And Justice For All” award for their donation of pro bono work on behalf of Legal Aid clients. Managing Partners Tracey Gerber and Mark Bideau accepted the award on behalf of the firm.
Former Florida Bar President Michelle Suskauer was honored with the “Suzanne and John Foley Serving Justice” award for her long-term commitment to the mission and vision of Legal Aid.
Kathy Leone was recognized as the first recipient of the “Harreen Bertisch Children’s Advocacy Award” for her commitment to improving the lives of children in Palm Beach County.
Florida Bar President-elect Designate Rosalyn Sia Baker Barnes, Edrick Barnes and Abigail and Hampton Beebe served as chairs of the gala. During the evening, the “Call to the Heart” was used to raise funds to endow a new staff position, the “Harreen Bertisch Child Advocate.”
This event was the first in a series to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Legal Aid in Palm Beach County. The next event will be a Shop-For-A-Cause shopping weekend at Brooks Brothers at the Gardens Mall, May 31 and June 1 and 2. All friends of Legal Aid will receive 15% off all purchases.
