The event brought together family, friends, colleagues, and community leaders to recognize Diaz-Balart’s lasting contributions, from his early advocacy on behalf of low-income tenants facing unsafe housing and illegal evictions to his unwavering dedication to ensuring equal access to legal representation throughout his career.

Legal Services CEO Monica Vigues-Pitan delivered opening remarks highlighting Diaz-Balart’s legacy and impact.  Jeffrey Hearne, chief advocacy officer, followed by sharing reflections from former Executive Director Marcia Cypen.  Additional tributes came from former Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Diaz-Balart’s son, Daniel Diaz-Balart, who read a excerpt from his father’s autobiography.

“To his last breath, Lincoln was a man of character, of leadership, and of vision. He truly had a servant’s heart,” said Ros-Lehtinen. “So, when we help others, we honor Lincoln, and we honor his legacy.”

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque, now permanently displayed in the Legal Services Hall of History.

“Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart’s life was defined by a deep commitment to justice and service,” said Vigues-Pitan. “We’re honored to recognize his legacy and continue the important work he championed – ensuring that low-income individuals facing serious legal challenges have access to a lawyer who can effectively advocate on their behalf and safeguard their rights.”
