Legal Services of Greater Miami receives $288k grant from Florida Blue Foundation
Legal Services of Greater Miami (Legal Services) has received a $288,000 multi-year grant from the Florida Blue Foundation to “increase health equity awareness” and efforts within the organization.
In turn, Legal Services says the grant will significantly improve the quality and reach of the services provided for clients and the community.
The program provides Legal Services teams with tools to respond and engage “in culturally sensitive and respectful interactions with each other, clients, and the community.”
“This funding reinforces our commitment to building a more equitable community,” said Legal Services CEO Monica-Vigues-Pitan. “The program will better position our team to help address the needs and challenges of our diverse client community and ensure our organization continues to offer the highest quality legal representation for all.”
Legal Services says staff, managers, and board members will benefit by:
- Gaining the skills and knowledge needed to effectively engage the community,
- Identifying updates to policies and procedures that will lead to better outcomes for clients, and
- Attracting and retaining a diverse and more inclusive workforce.
“We are proud to support this program to advance health equity and foster inclusion in the legal profession and across health care,” said Florida Blue Foundation Executive Director Susan Towler. “We look forward to seeing the meaningful difference this training program will make to reduce health disparities and create a stronger, healthier, and more inclusive community for everyone.”
Minorities are the majority of the more than 22,000 individuals Legal Services served last year — 49% Hispanic/Latino and 41% Black, according to Legal Services.
