Legal stars rock for justice, raise $40K for Dade Legal Aid

Five South Florida rock bands made up of lawyers, judges, and professionals cranked up the volume recently, taking the stage to raise money and awareness for access to justice at Dade Legal Aid’s annual Battle of the Legal Bands.
This year’s event raised over $40,000.
The bands performing in the competition include Chillable Hours, LLP, The 540s, The Seacocks, and The Urge.

Dade Legal Aid is the oldest provider of free civil legal services and the largest provider of pro bono services for qualifying low-income residents of Miami-Dade County. In 2013, the agency formed the Battle of the Legal Bands to raise funds and support for its program that specializes in family law, domestic violence, guardianship, child advocacy, probate, real property, general civil, and bankruptcy cases for qualifying low-income residents.
“Thanks to our bands, fans, staff, and legal community, this year’s event was our most successful in our history,” said Karen J. Ladis, executive director. “The need for free civil legal services has increased during the last year and this event not only showcased many talented musicians but also highlighted the growing need for more pro bono attorneys to assist our clients facing domestic violence, foreclosures, and other barriers.”
The winning band was The Urge, a multi-genre cover band that has performed in this event every year since its inception in 2013. The Urge features Miami attorneys Fred Fein and Mark Meland.
