LSGMI awarded grant from United Way of the Florida Keys
Legal Services of Greater Miami, Inc., has been awarded a grant from the United Way of the Florida Keys to provide free legal services to qualifying residents of the Keys.
The $3,000 grant will provide residents of Monroe County with four clinics aimed at providing legal assistance on a variety of civil legal issues ranging from tenants’ rights, home ownership, health and income maintenance, tax, and veteran’s issues. The first two clinics will take place on September 18 in Key Largo followed by a clinic in Marathon on September 19. The additional dates and locations for the additional two clinics will be determined at a later date. LSGMI also will be recruiting volunteer attorneys to increase the capacity to serve the low income community.
“We are grateful to the United Way of the Florida Keys for this opportunity to assist the residents of Monroe County when they are faced with legal issues that stand in the way of their path toward economic stability,” said Monica Vigues Pitan, LSGMI executive director. “Moreover, we look forward to working with volunteer attorneys who . . . are dedicated to assisting people on their path out of poverty.”
