The Florida Bar welcomes Margaret (Maggie) O’Neill as its new managing attorney editor for Bar Legal Publications.

A member of both The Florida Bar and the State Bar of California, O’Neill has spent most of her 17-year legal career in private practice in family law and dependency matters as a solo practitioner.

O’Neill also has extensive experience with publications. She served as editor in chief for Professional Publications for Reed Elsevier, the parent company to LexisNexis. LexisNexis is the Bar’s longstanding publishing partner for Bar Legal Publications, law practice manuals, and rules books.

“We are both fortunate and excited to have Maggie join The Florida Bar staff and the Programs Division and Bar Legal Publication teams,” said Terry Hill, director of the Bar’s Programs Division.

O’Neill says that accepting the managing attorney editor position with the Bar is the best of two worlds for her.

“After 17 years as a practicing family law attorney in Tampa Bay, I am incredibly excited to return to my first career — publishing,” O’Neill said. “I have a unique opportunity to meld my experiences as a practicing attorney and as a publishing professional.”

O’Neill says her goal is to continue the Bar’s tradition of excellence by bringing high-quality, affordable, practice manuals to the hard-working attorneys of Florida. She says that since her hire, her new work home has been nothing but open and inviting.

“My new colleagues at the Bar have been most welcoming and I am looking forward to getting to know the entire team of professionals,” O’Neill said.
